Challenging Ultimate Sandbag Leg Complex

Kettlebell & Body Weight Workout: guest post by Marianne Kane

I originally chose JKC to help me rehab following back surgery. JKC was the first gym where a trainer took the time to help me identify my goals and tailor my workouts to achieve them in a safe and doable manner. šŸ‹šŸ¼Ā Jon & Thomas are both highly professional and knowledgeable.Ā šŸ‘ØšŸ¼ā€šŸŽ“ With their guidance and informative explanationsĀ šŸ—£ they have enabled me to reach my ever evolving goals. At JKC Iā€™m guaranteed funĀ šŸ˜†, interestingĀ šŸ™ƒ and diverseĀ workouts, with Jon & Thomas forever supportive and encouraging. šŸ‘šŸ™ŒšŸ‘šŸ‘Š

Iā€™m 30 ā€” started at JKC Aug 2016. I moved to NL to open lululemon and we chose Jon as one of our storeā€™s ambassadors, did one workout and have raved about it ever since! The JKC team can adapt a workout no matter what the situation ā€” injuries, new goals, you name it! The trust and expertise can’t be matched!

I chose JKC originally to help prevent rowing injuries. Iā€™m a rower and we won the St. John’s Regatta in 2019 but I rowed through a rib stress fracture and missed significant time in the boat during the racing season. Training at JKC consistently since the pandemic helped me stay injury free this year and made me the strongest Iā€™ve ever felt, which helped me help my team win the 2021 St. Johnā€™s Regatta! Jon adds variety and mixes the exercises up well so that the workout goes by quickly and strength is gained. The gym is very personable and I like the eclectic mix of people that are there. JKC is much more intimate and personal than other gyms.

I saw an article in Menā€™s Journal that quoted Jon in about 2018 while traveling and was impressed that someone in St. Johnā€™s made that international magazine.Ā  Jon spoke about an exercise called the Farmerā€™s Walk and I started working that into my routine at the YMCA.Ā I tore that article out of the magazine and kept it, meaning to make contact, but got busy. Then I had lunch with an old friend Bruce Dyke.Ā I hadnā€™t seen Bruce for a while and I remarked that he looked super healthy and fit.Ā He told me about his, and his son Casā€™, experience at JKC and then I remembered the Menā€™s Journal article!Ā No coincidences!

The experience is unique on many levels ā€“ great people, camaraderie, passion, purpose, and dedication. Jon and Thomas are attentive, precise and understanding.Ā  Their teaching has unlocked a new perspective for me with what our bodies are capable of. I still appreciate the YMCA, wonderful place, but I canā€™t imagine working out without Jon and Thomas now.
